Players of Utica Presents the Hilarious Neil Simon Comedy, “Last of the Red Hot Lovers”
UTICA, N.Y., 10/16/2023 – Players of Utica continues its 2023-2024 Season with comedy legend Neil Simon’s hilarious Last of the Red Hot Lovers.
It’s the swinging 1960s and Barney Cashman — a successful restaurant owner who’s been married for 23 years — decides it’s time for him to join the sexual revolution before it’s too late.
So he attempts three seductions in his mother’s empty apartment: the first, Elaine Navazio proves to be far more than Barney can handle; Bobbi Michele is next, a 20-ish actress who’s too kooky by half; finally comes Jeanette Fisher, a gloomy, depressed housewife who happens to be married to Barney’s best friend.
The comedy, directed by Deborah Martin, features Stephen Wagner as Barney, Kelly Yule-Motyl as Elaine, Tori Deane Peters as Bobbi, and Debra Harrison as Jeanette.
“I’m a big Neil Simon fan,” says director Martin. “I love hearing the audience laugh. And audiences will love the three off-the-wall women Barney tries desperately to seduce. It’s one of Neil Simon’s best!”
The comedy continues Players of Utica’s long history of high-quality entertainment, being the oldest continually operating community theatre in New York State and one of the five oldest in the entire U.S. — a distinction that our area can be very proud of.
