Players of Utica Presents Divine Hilarity, “The Gods of Comedy”
UTICA, N.Y., 01/12/2026 – You might not realize it, but the gods of Ancient Greece are still around… waiting and watching… and they are willing to come to the aid of ordinary mortals in need. Such is the case for a couple of antiquities professors who find and then lose a priceless manuscript by the great Greek playwright Euripides. And when they call on the ancient gods for help — and they show up — the most outrageous treasure hunt you can imagine ensues. And it all unfolds on stage in The Gods of Comedy at Players of Utica, beginning January 23.
Written by celebrated comic playwright Ken Ludwig and directed by Eric Almleaf, the two-act play is a celebration of classic comedy, human foibles, and all the joyful calamities that come with romance, misguided intentions, and the quest for a happy ending. What more could you ask for?
“Come and be entertained and escape the outside world,” says director Almleaf, “as you laugh and commiserate with the characters on stage. This show has elements of the TV and movie comedy shows of old like The Marx Brothers, Sid Caesar, as well as classic Mel Brooks. You’ll come away with a sense of joy and good old-fashioned fun.”
The talented cast includes Derek Nekritz, Rose Sheppard, Stephanie Hammonds, Andres Roberts, Hannah Bangs, Salvatore Perritano, Stephen Wagner, Sharon Rankins-Burd, Haley Gatley, and Lonnie Etter.
